Back in April of last year, I went and spent Easter with James and his family. My mom came with me, and it was the first time our parents all met. It was such a great 10 days! James and I knew that our mom’s would instantly connect! They are very similar in a lot of ways. During my stay, James and I went looking at a bunch of venues with one of his friends that is getting married this year! James and I knew that we wanted to get married this year, but I honestly had no idea when he would propose, or when we should even start thinking about locations or other vendors! Well…that same day we had a little break in between venue searching, and James took me ring shopping for the first and well…only time! :) I was so SOO excited! But thats another story (you can see my ring here and my proposal here)! The last venue we went to visit with James’ friend…we both really loved. And we saw a re-occurring theme going on at each venue we went to. They didn’t have a lot of dates available for next summer/beginning of fall left! So after that last venue, we looked at each other and James said “maybe we need to start looking for venues”….and I agreed! So after my trip, mom and I came home…and we started searching! We couldn’t decide on, should we get married in Canada, or Southern California?! As a little girl, I’ve always always wanted a destination wedding in Italy! But that was an absolute no, from both our families! lol James did research on venues around him, and I did research on venues around me! It was so much easier that way! Of course we looked at so many more venues! But these were my favorite from everything we were looking at. All we knew is that we wanted something outdoors so that was all we looked for. :)
We fell in love with two places in Canada, near James in the surrounding cities of Kitchener.

As for the places we looked into in California, we loved:

Two years ago, I had the honor of helping a friend shoot at a venue outside of San Francisco. And it never crossed my mind to look that far north. The farthest north I was looking was Ojai! And one day James and I started talking about it. And immediately we knew that was our venue. Every venue we looked at we thought was beautiful in its own way, but we always felt as something was just missing. Then when we talked about this venue…just couldn’t say no! Nothing really compared to it, for us! We told our families, and they were all on board! So now, its still a destination wedding for the both of us, a place that James and I absolutely fell in love with…located amongst the red wood trees, in Los Gatos, California, called Nestldown. photo courtesy of Tanja Lippert.
ps. I would post tons more pictures of our venue…but I don’t want to give it all away…so you’ll just have to wait until our wedding photos for that! But what do you think?! Do you love it? James and I sure do!!
